The Datsun brand was re launched today at Delhi and the first model to hit Indian markets in 2014 was also unveiled. It is being called the GO and is named after Datsun's first ever car the DAT GO. Nissan says that it will be priced below 4 lakhs when it goes on sale. I was watching the live webcast and it really does look like spacious hatch. Maruti did that when they came to India with the first 800 an changed the history of the Indian Auto Industry.

Do you think Datsun can take the fight to Maruti and Hyundai who are direct competitors in our market? What are hurdles Datsun can face? In my opinion pricing spares well and having a fantastic service network is one of them

Opinions?

Looks good at that price point. If they are able to set up a proper dealer and service network to boost customer confidence, then they will surely be able to provide good competition to the likes of WagonR, I 10, Spark, Eon. But this particular segment is very cost conscious and risk averse. so reliability, cost / availability of spares will play a very improtant role in making or breaking of Datsun brand

Very vaild points. Reliability should not be a problem since its a Japanese product but as you said spares availability and the cost is important. The target audience is a first time car buyer after all

Hatch backs !!!

The best way to start is to start with the topic centre itself ! These days it can be seen a lot new cars in all the segment being rolled out. Whether it is sedan segment, to bit lower costing luxury brands or new segment of compact SUV or the all time ruler Hatch backs !! in every upcoming months we can see something unique being rolled out by the automakers.

Focusing on the hatchback, it may be maruti suzuki or nissan or hyundai something new is rolled out in the market in short spans. The latest of all these can be the Datsun brand of Nissan, then has made a comeback after almost 32 years !! with the launch of it hatchback Datsun Go !! The car is priced below 4 lakhs. Since the car is priced with beginners price tag it might give a neck on neck competition to maruti's alto, alto k10, wagon r hyundai i10 !!!

Since the technical specification are still not revealed , much can be talked only after the reveal of detailed tech specs. Talking apart the car brand is not new in the market it is just a recall of the old respected brand of Nissan, hence we can expect some healthy competition from DatSun Go in the market of small car segment !!

it some how looks closer to Alto 800 specially the wheel caps are simple taken from there. Overall design point of view, it is going to be similar to Alto 800 but yes with more space/room in the cabin.

However, the key to beat MSIL would be if the price is very very competitive and FE is 1:1 w.r.t. Alto.

Yes this car competes with the likes of Alto , Eon and Spark , so actual pricing will be certainly the key.

Nissan hopes to increase its overall market share with this model, they currently are at a very small 1.2% which they hope to increase to 10% post introduction to this model early next year.

Just to add , Renault is also working on its very own CHEAP small car , for launch later next year.

Looks like it is much more than Alto 800 in every terms since it has the same wheel base as of Micra, the design is much more striking and impressive than Alto 800, interiors also has some ind of freshness and newness but doesn't look cheap, it has 3 cyl 1200 pet engine which is same as Micra but detuned may be for better fuel efficiency and Nissan has already stated that the pricing would be below 4L so overall DATSUN GO seems to be the winner.

Nissan has already established dealership and service network across India and lots of Micra and other products are already on the road so after sales , spares etc.. will not be a major issue.

GO will give serious competition to Alto and may eat away the market share which Hyundai Eon failed to do.

The other advantage of GO is because it is a Japanese Product so overall reliability may not be a big question even among the new buyer.

Nissan should launch GO as soon as possible because VW is almost ready with UP and it will be a game changer for all hatchbacks within price range of 3.5L to 5L

That Sun that set 30yrs.ago rises again or only in name. Nissan wants to launch a small car without spoiling its name as a cheap car maker so datsun. But I think if they had launched this car under nissan brand they would have faced problems still in selling in this price bracket. As nissan although making wonderful cars like teana gives such an awful after sales. While this go segment is maruti dominated and the customer is less look oriented as the largest seliing car in india ie.alto tells us, what this customer wants besides reliability is good after sales and a good resale value in the car. What I think is nissan should prove itself over toyota before taking its battle with the king of the indian jungle "maruti suzuki" in the finals. Then they can name the car under any banner datsun or dissun.
