VW Vento GT TSi launch expected soon EDIT: Now launched

Recommended Posts

After Volkswagen plonked the 1.2TSI engine in the Polo, it was only a matter of time that the automaker launched a new turbocharged variant of the VW Vento, one of its two models in India that still run on naturally aspirated engines. And it only became more imminent with the recent news that the automaker plans to retire all conventional engines and go fully turbocharged.

Now we can confirm that VW is set to launch the Vento TSI in October. A source from Volkswagen tells us that the Vento TSI is scheduled for a soft launch on October 3 in India. This is expected going by the pattern of recent VW launches in India, including that of the Cross Polo, Polo GT TSI and Polo GT TDI.

This paves the way for Volkswagen to discontinue the production of the naturally aspirate 1.6 engine currently powering the Vento 1.6, and eventually replacing it by the Vento 1.2 TSI. Earlier this year, the Polo 1.6 was shown the door just before the launch of Polo 1.2TSI.

The Vento GT TSI will not only borrow the 105PS 1.2TSI engine from the Polo GT but also the dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Vento was recently given a facelift and other than a GT badge at the front grille and at the sides and rear, we don’t expect any other changes.

Volkswagen may also offer better looking alloy wheels on the Vento GT.

What remains to be suspicious are its :

-Fuel efficiency figures for Vento 1.2 TSi, which will not alone to be better than its rival sedans, instead it would be quite comparable to many hatchbacks below its segment.

-The pricing of the car, will VW change its prices in Manual gearbox versions(if launched) or will initially position Vento GT TSi as top-end petrol option with DSG gearbox only, like Polo GT TSi.

I have driven polo GT TSi a month ago and I liked it , may buy in year 2014 model fabulous car, great drive dynamics and appropriate power. It's just few thousands expensive hatch back still; Worth it.

Hope vento will have better price and give inherent advantage of a saloon.

Vento TSi launched at Rs.9.99 lacs

Volkswagen has launched the Vento 1.2 TSI in India. The Vento TSI is priced at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The new Volkswagen Vento TSI is powered by a 1.2-litre direct injection turbo petrol engine that makes 103bhp and 17.84kgm of torque. This is the same motor that does duty in the VW Polo GT TSI. The Vento TSI gets the same seven-speed DSG 'box as well. The combination of the 1.2 motor with the DSG transmission results in an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure of 16.93 kpl.

Volkswagen discontinued the Polo 1.6 petrol model earlier this year and launched the Polo GT TSI. However, with the Vento, VW will continue to sell the 1.6 manual and automatic alongside the Vento TSI.
